David has been focused on early stage Internet startups his entire career, both as an
entrepreneur and an investor.
As a venture investor in the digital media space, David was most recently a Vice President at
Venrock and previously a Principal at Masthead Venture Partners. While at Venrock, an early-
stage venture capital firm originally established as an investment arm of the Rockefeller family,
David served on the boards of portfolio companies Second Rotation and BlogHer, and was
actively involved with Appnexus. While at Masthead, he co-led an investment in Expo TV, and
was an integral investment team member for Tremor Media, Intercasting, and NewsGator.
Prior to becoming a venture capitalist, David co-founded Sombasa Media,
an e-mail marketing company best known for its flagship product BargainDog.
Sombasa was successfully acquired by About Inc., which was soon after acquired
by Primedia (NYSE: PRM), where David served as Vice President of Marketing.
David's educational background includes an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of
Business and an AB in Economics, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Duke
University. He also founded and leads the Web Innovators Group, an organization which holds
quarterly entrepreneur events drawing 1000 attendees.
